it’s still tuesday right?? :) it’s almost 4pm but it is still tuesday..chuckle..the “sore eyes” have now become mostly gritty eyes so staring at computer does not work so well! however, here is today’s blogpost.
siena. we have seen it in movies - the english patient, james bond. we have heard about the infamous Palio, or horserace, that takes place annually in the piazza del campo, or main town square. we have seen photos of the majestic duomo, or cathedral.
it’s quite the majestic city. i think what i loved most was sitting in the piazza, as many others did, and just “be”. as my dear friend, brother and italian host, Max, and i chatted and watched the many come and go thru the square, stop and chat with their friends, some eat their mid-morning snacks, it was as though i sat there and “belonged” as any of the other locals. i ate my snack, took photos, watched people. yes it was truly a memorable day.
to take it all in was an experience in itself. the sights - the buildings, the homes, the streets, the stores. the sounds and bustling of everyone walking and talking about. the smells of donuts, pizza, baked good, pasta, wafting into the streets was enough to make you want to stop at every place and sample!
it was a magical place, this siena. and i’m so very thankful our tour host, max, was the one to take us.
max has been doing these sorts of tours - with photographers in mind - for many years. his personal knack for everything italian, and knowing so much about his own country and culture makes the experience AMAZING.
here is what others, who have come on my FOLLOW YOUR HEART TOUR…to ITALY, have said about touring with max -
I followed my heart to Italy and fell in love!! October 29th, 2010, was my first trip to Europe and I couldn’t have chosen a better way to experience true Italian culture than with Max Brunelli. Max proved to be the ultimate guide. He not only provided us with the best accommodation and authentic Italian Cuisine, but also an insider’s view of Umbria and Tuscany. I felt very at home in my new surroundings and privileged to be a part of this amazing experience. As a guide, Max was patient, courteous, friendly and always knowledgeable. In addition and without hesitation, Max went out of his way to accomodate our every need to ensure a harmonious and successful experience for all. Lastly, there were no language barriers with Max present which made for a delightful opportunity to learn and converse as Max was always willing to teach us what we needed if we asked. This was by far the best way to experience Italy in my opinion and I look forward with anticipation to my next Italian adventure with Max and his team! “I signed up to go on a Follow Your Heart to Italy tour with Tracey Heppner last October. Max Brunelli organized and lead the group, showing us the hidden beauty that you would not get to see in larger tour groups, I was in no way let down. Italy was breathtaking! From the medieval villages full of character to the stunning rolling hills of Tuscany. I was blown away by the beauty, the culture and the food! There was a photo opportunity everywhere I turned that seemed to bring out a new form of creativity inside me. I learnt so much, made great friends and have the most amazing memories. I will defiantly be going back to Italy in the near future!” ~Nicole LeNouail - Canada
and then of course what i have to say about max’s hosting:
if i had to think of one word to describe my tour with max & cristiana i would have to say AMAZING! everything about the tour was AMAZING…the cities and places we visited each day…the gorgeous b&b & hotel we called home while in italy… the very fact that max not only toured out little group around but he was a wealth of knowledge that made our tour that much more enjoyable! max & cristiana are some of the warmest, friendliest, sincerest and honest people i have met. they are passionate about their country &culture and have the most AMAZING ability to share it with everyone on the tour…we all took home a little bit of italy. they have been in the hospitality business for many years and there was no doubt in my mind that they knew EXACTLY how to make our tour outstanding. i can’t wait for our tour next year… thanks max & cristiana for an amazing job well done! GRAZIE MILLE! ~tracey heppner
