TLH: what is the favorite part of what you do (business wise)?
Jeanie:  Album designs! A cool way to story-tell the wedding story in 50 images or less! I guess that would make it an extension of marketing and publicity, which I also love! Mix in a bit of design, and I’m in heaven (:

 TLH: how did you get started? everyone asks, i know, but peeps wanna know!
Jeanie: Oh boy, the way that (it feels like) EVERYBODY did … I kinda fell into it! Asked as a favor from a friend of a friend, and before I knew it, I was shooting weddings for moolah. I gotta say, it took photography to a whole different level for me, because I saw how it could make me so happy (the creation of art) and how it made others so happy as well. Win-win!

 TLH: if you could live anywhere in the world for a year, money not an issue, where would it be and why?
Jeanie:
New Zealand, hands down! I went to visit in 2007 for the first time, and fell in love. Hard. It felt like home, but felt new and foreign and you know me … I am all about the new and undiscovered! I love turning over new stones and rocks and finding out what’s on the corner. Discovering a new familiarity in the unfamiliar. That totally turns my cranks! Speaking of cranks, I get  cranky when I discover tha I am set in a routine, or am in an environment that hasn’t changed at all, so I guess I kinda need to explore new places (:

TLH: favorite story/memory of past client/work/project.
Jeanie: (A) When I flew over to Edinburgh to photograph a wedding! It was the first destination wedding for myself, and I loved every second of it! The bride+groom had the cutest details, from a cake stand made from Lego (the groom had an obsession with Lego, to put it nicely) and the bride’s dress was handsewn by the groom’s mum. It was in a beautiful B&B in a small town called Pitlochery, and the men wore kilts! I loved how a bagpiper came out at the end of the night to celebrate with them, and everybody danced the night away with traditional dancing.

(B) For another destination wedding, the bride loved my suggestion of being the first Underwater Bride for my portfolio. She was very comfortable with swimming and so I geared up with scuba diving equipment, and we took it underwater. It was 1.5 hours of total fun and experimentation … I loved the images that we ended up with. It was one of the most fun projects that I have ever done, and I can’t wait for my next Underwater Bride! (:

TLH: what is your favorite foods to eat? to make? to buy? why?

Jeanie: Eat: Anything that starts with “Ra” and ends with “men”! I love noodles and I love soup and I love it when they’re combined together. It’s the slurping noises that totally make the meal complete for me (: The louder the slurp, the more fun I’m having! A Debbie-downer for me is when the soup shows up lukewarm. Yuck! Who wants lukewarm? It’s gotta be HOTHOTHOT or go home! (;

Make: I love to cook fish! It’s the only meat that I totally dig, and my fav way to cook it is to poach it, or to give it a steam bath. It’s totally healthy, and the best part is that it doesn’t spatter, so there’s the least amount of cleanup! (; On another note, this kinda goes hand in hand with HOTPOT, which is kind of like a steam bath, except it’s communal. Very fun to make, and very fun to share!

Buy: Creme brulee! Coz I can’t make it to save my life … not that I’ve tried, but I don’t have the time right now to learn how to properly make it, and I loveloveLOVE Creme brulee! …maybe even more so than my husband … LOL! Shhhh don’t tell him that! …because it aint true LOL! (:

TLH: where do you see yourself in your biz and life in 5 years?

Jeanie: Still doing photography, but branching out from wedding, where now, I’m only doing a select few per year, and concentrating on portraits (families and such). I also see myself having a family, and so the running of a business would take a back seat to running my own family (;

TLH: how do you want to be remembered?
Jeanie: In the best of ways, of course! I’m a very simple girl at heart and prefer to be in the background rather than in the foreground. If life was a stage I would be the stage manager working behind the curtains. I’m not the type to make a loud noise or create something new, but I do enjoy bringing smiles to people’s faces, and would love to see myself being remembered for bringing positive energy and spirit into a room.
